BBC: Bees and balanced diets-2

NJChoi 2025. 9. 9. 20:03

That's our fifth word: forage. To forage means to search for food. Bees forage in a very smart way, spreading out and choosing the flowers  that provide the nutrients their colony needs.

Exactly. And this is what makes them so remarkable. They're not just tiny insects buzzing around- they're complex, coordinated workers that support entire ecosystems.

Of course, there's a serious side to all this. Global been populations are facing big threats- from habitat loss, climate change, and poor nutrition.

And this brings us our sixth word: pollinator. A pollinator is any animal, like a bee, butterfly, or even a bird, that helps plants reproduce by moving pollen from one flower to another. Without pollinator, many fruits, vegetable, and nuts we eat wouldn't grow.

So protecting pollinators like wild bees is directly connected to protecting human food supplies.

Alright, let's return to our quiz. We asked: How many species of wild bumblebees were observed in the Colorad Rockies during the study?

a) Theree  b) Five   c)  Eight   or  d) Twelve.

And the answer si ... c) Eight.

That's right. The researchers studied eight species, each with its own unique way of finding food.

Before we wrap up, let's recap today's six words:

Pollen- fine yellow powder from flowers that bees collect for food.

Macronutrients- the main food groups: protein, fat, and carbohydrates.

Niche- a special role or place in an ecosystem.

Conservation- protecting nature and wildfire for the future.

Forage- to search for food.

Pollinator- an animal that helps plants reproduce by moving pollen.

Six great words to help you talk about bees, ecosystems, and even nutrition.
